With a growing population of circa 3000 residents, West Melton is a small town located about 22km west of Christchurch. The area has its roots in sheep farming, potatoes, grain and racing stables. More recent developments have included orchards for olives, nuts and grapes. With its origin in the stunning Southern Alps, the nearby Waimakariri River winds its way through the Canterbury plains to the Pacific Ocean, providing water vital for irrigation and a recreation playground for boating and fishing.
It is in this stunning location that Diane and Andrew Henderson are owner operators of BP West Melton.
During August 2025, Diane reached out to Paul Trower, FPG Senior Project Account Manager, to discuss a complete store refresh. The BP 2go store is the hub of their business. With people calling in during their morning commute to Christchurch, coffee is a significant offer. Further, Diane wished to align the store more closely to BP Connect, the BP corporate-owned stores.
The FPG scope of work included:
- Point of sale counter
- The coffee station
- Food to go cabinetry together with new FPG Inline 5000 display cabinets
- All cabinetry, shelving and leaners, and seating areas.
Paul proposed a great idea to reconfigure a door no longer required as a wall to provide further merchandising space. He also suggested solutions such as the FPG Inline Barista milk storage cabinet to help improve operations at the coffee counter. The store design with the final pieces was now complete.
The fitout was completed in November and Diane is delighted. “I am very happy with the result. The store looks great and it feels bigger. The black and wood finishes combined with the off-white colour on the walls create a very smart, inviting store. And I’ve notice that many customers are using the seating area. It’s a really nice vibe.”

Diane also observes that staff are enjoying the enhancements and that the changes have improved workflow. “Staff are loving it. The Inline Barista is fabulous for our busy coffee station – the different milk varieties are at hand and stock management is so easy – pull out the drawer and you can instantly see and restock with minimal effort. The drawers under the gondolas are also great. The boxes we used to have behind the counter area are gone freeing up space in a busy area. Having stock at the gondola also eliminates the need to walk back and forth. All these improvements add up.”
FPG has a track record of working with BP 2go independent dealers, supporting their business growth aspirations with store refreshes. Here are photos from some of the latest sites we have worked with:
