CABINETS
WHAT MAKES FPG TEMPERATURE-CONTROLLED FOOD & DRINK DISPLAY CABINETS THE BEST?
At FPG we believe our food display cabinets are the best. We optimise food display cabinets across seven core areas:
- Reduce operational costs. FPG considers technology choices and their impacts particularly on energy efficiency and shelf life of product.
- Sell more. FPG includes features designed to excel in the presentation of food and drinks which help you sell more. These include super-bright LED lighting and, in many cases, shelves that can be repositioned and tilted forward to improve the customer view.
- Enhance your brand. FPG offers a comprehensive range of optional accessories and cabinet finishing techniques to enable us to create a cabinet that reflects your brand.
- Meet international compliance. FPG cabinets are tested in our environmental test labs to meet core standards for electrical emissions, consistent core product temperatures, and maximised for energy efficiency (STAR ratings in Australia/New Zealand and EPREL in Europe).
- Support available for the life of the cabinet. FPG will provide spare parts, managing component obsolescence with substitute parts, for the life of the cabinet. We keep a record of cabinet serial numbers so we can refer to the right variant of your cabinet model to provide the right support to your service partner.
- Extend cabinet lifetime. FPG cabinets are made from premium long-life materials such as stainless steel and low-E coated double glazed glass. We include features to enable FPG cabinets to be maintained by operational staff. An example are the pre-filters in refrigerated cabinets which trap dirt, preventing it from clogging up the refrigeration system.
- Sustainability. We estimate that 85% by volume of FPG cabinets can be recycled at the cabinet’s end of life.
Ultimately, customers provide the proof. More than 80% of FPG’s revenue is derived from repeat customers, many of whom have purchased cabinets from FPG for more than 20 years.
DO FPG TEMPERATURE-CONTROLLED FOOD & DRINK DISPLAY CABINETS EXTEND THE SHELF LIFE OF FOOD?
Yes, FPG cabinets – especially those that are fully enclosed – are engineered to help extend shelf life of fresh food. The effect is more pronounced with unpackaged food.
In refrigerated and controlled ambient cabinets this is done through retaining humidity. By retaining humidity, food stays fresher for longer.
For heated cabinets it is through the heating technology. Products are gently heated using long coils in the heating element. This provides greater coverage throughout the whole cabinet eliminating hot and cold spots and reducing the pace at which hot food dries out.
Read more about how FPG cabinets extend shelf life.
WHAT MATERIALS ARE USED IN THE MANUFACTURE OF FPG CABINETS?
FPG food display cabinets are largely made of stainless and mild steel, and low-E coated double-glazed safety glass.
FPG MANUFACTURES PREMIUM FOOD DISPLAY SOLUTIONS. IS THE HIGHER PRICE WORTH IT?
If you value the full package of FPG value propositions then yes, your business will benefit from making an investment in these premium food display cabinets.
Taking into account operational lifetime costs, many FPG food display cabinets have the best Total Cost of Life.

TECHNICAL
WHAT REFRIGERATION TECHNOLOGIES DOES FPG USE?
FPG refrigerated integral cabinets (where the refrigerant is on-board) are engineered with a vapour compression refrigeration system. This is a direct expansion system where the refrigerant is delivered directly to the heat exchange coil.
To understand the refrigeration cycle further and the other technologies FPG integrates to develop compliant and energy efficient refrigerated display cabinets, read more about refrigeration technologies.
WHAT HEATING TECHNOLOGIES DOES FPG USE?
FPG uses multiple heating technologies across its range of heated food display cabinets.
Enclosed heated cabinets use tubular heating elements with low wattage density. This system provides even temperature distribution throughout the whole cabinet.
FPG open front heated cabinets incorporate FPG’s unique IWave quartz infrared heating technology. Infrared is a proven heating technology with many applications in the food manufacturing and food service industries. Extremely energy efficient, it has been used in the restaurant business for more than 30 years.
Read more about FPG heating technologies.
HOW DO I ADDRESS CONDENSATION ON THE CABINET?
Condensation is a naturally occurring phenomenon. Water will condense and pool if certain environmental conditions are met. The best way to mitigate it is to de-stock and power off refrigerated cabinets when the business is closed and/or to invest in a fit-for-purpose HVAC system which can accommodate the heat output of all the refrigerated appliances in the store 24/7.
Read more about how it occurs and what you can do to mitigate it.
IS HUMIDITY IN REFRIGERATED CABINETS IMPORTANT?
Yes. High humidity and low air speed inside the refrigerated display cabinet will help to extend the shelf life of food, especially fresh unwrapped food.
WHAT REFRIGERANTS DOES FPG SUPPORT FOR ITS REFRIGERATED CABINETS?
Default refrigerants for plug and play integral refrigerated cabinets are detailed on the cabinet spec sheet available from the cabinet product pages on the FPG website.
Many FPG plug and play integral refrigerated cabinets are supplied with eco-friendly R290 (propane): Encore, Impulse, Visair Upright.
Other FPG integral refrigerated cabinets such as Inline are supplied with R513A for enclosed cabinets and R449A for open front cabinets.
FPG can configure refrigerated cabinets with the correct fittings for connections to central refrigeration systems. We will specify the charges/flow rates and the TX/EPL Valves required.
Refrigerant requirements vary around the world. Please advise FPG no later than the time of placing an order about your refrigerant requirements.
